Is the Fallout 4 announcement coming in December?
Bethesda Softworks has filed a trademark for Fallout 4, ahead of a rumoured official announcement at the VGA Awards in December.
Although the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Fallout 3 has yet to be formally confirmed, Bethesda has just filed a trademark for Fallout 3 which incorporates other media beyond the game itself.
The Fallout 4 trademark extends to merchandise and digital media among other products, suggesting Bethesda is gearing up for a big launch early next year.
An official game announcement, along with the first Fallout 4 trailer, is strongly rumoured for the Spike VGA Awards in December.
More recently, the awards ceremony has been used by developers as a podium for big game announcements.
Over the past few years, several blockbuster titles have been debuted at the VGA Awards, including Bethesda’s own Elder Scroll V: Skyrim and Sony title Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
It’s been five years since Fallout 3 was released in 2008, so it’s probably about time for an update to the franchise.
Fallout: New Vegas was released in 2010 and built upon the foundation of Fallout 3, but wasn’t a direct sequel to the game.
Building on the Fallout 4 rumours is the appearance of a teaser website entitled Survivor 2299, which is counting down until December 11, the same week as the newly retitled Spike VGA awards, VGX.
There are also reports Bethesda hired a next-generation console programmer and level designer for an upcoming Xbox One and PS4 title.
Obsidian Entertainment game designer Chris Avellone also recently shared his thoughts on what the next Fallout game should include, such as new locations even outside of the US.
However, Zenimax Vice President Pete Hines said in June that no news surrounding Fallout 4 was coming anytime soon.
