LG Fireweb launched as company’s first Firefox OS smartphone

LG has launched the LG Fireweb, a Firefox OS phone that we’ll never be able to experience.

Unless you’re located in Peru, Brazil, Mexico or Uruguay, you won’t be able to purchase the newly launched LG Fireweb Firefox OS smartphone.

The smartphone is being launched by the Brazilian network provider Telefonica Vivo exclusively, running the Firefox OS complete with its unique mobile browser and Firefox Marketplace.

“We intend to offer a totally new experience to the customer at affordable prices and where the features and the evolution of the system will be defined by the immense Firefox OS developer community and not for any particular company”, said president of Telefonica Vivo, Antonio Carlos Valente.

“We’re happy to see Firefox OS gain momentum with partner launching new devices in new markets and developers around the world being inspired to innovate,” said Jay Sullivan, COO of Mozilla. “Our partnership with Telefonica Vivo demonstrates the rich, new experiences offered on Firefox OS by combining the best global and local content with LG’s elegant new device experience.”

LG Fireweb Features

Priced a little higher than its Firefox OS counterparts, the LG Fireweb has a 4-inch 480 x 320p display powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor.

It has 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.

The LG Fireweb sets itself apart from other Firefox OS phones as it offers a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash.

LG has priced the Fireweb a little higher than competitors due to the camera features, with the device actually becoming more expensive than the cheapest Android device on offer – the LG Optimus L3 2.
