The soon-to-be-replaced Sony Xperia M2 Aqua

Sony is set to launch the Xperia M4 Aqua alongside its Xperia Z4 Tablet at MWC 2015 next week, a new report reveals.

According to extracts from official documents outed by XperiaBlog, the smartphone will land as the successor to last year’s Xperia M2 Aqua, skipping over the apparently non-existent Xperia M3 Aqua.

The extracts also reveal that the Xperia M4 Aqua will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The M2 Aqua, by comparison, launched with Android 4.4 KitKat.

This report also re-confirms the existence of the Xperia Z4 Tablet, leaked yesterday, again assuring us that the new slate will also run off the Lollipop OS.

The software version is tipped specifically to be 28.0.A.0.xxx, although little else is revealed about the device.

Fortunately, the fact that both of these devices will launch next week carrying Lollipop bodes well for existing Xperia users.

Sony is one of the few remaining Android OEMs yet to roll out the Android 5.0 update to its flagship smartphones.

It’s likely that the Xperia series will finally see the OTA upgrade during MWC 2015, perhaps on March 3, the purported date of the Xperia Z4 Tablet unveiling.

The Xperia Z4 Tablet was inadvertently showcased yesterday via Sony’s Xperia Lounge app.

The information revealed the device would carry a ‘stunning 2K display, combined with the latest ultra fast processor and industry leading battery performance.’

Sony is also expected to launch a larger 12.9-inch Xperia Tablet Ultra at the event, with the unveiling of the flagship Xperia Z4 also a possibility.
