Sony has announced the Xperia E4g, a new entry-level Android phone with 4G connectivity.
As the name suggests, the Sony Xperia E4g is a minor variant of the Sony Xperia E4, which was itself only announced two weeks ago.
The Xperia E4g is to all intents and purposes the same phone. This means that it comes with a 5-inch 960 x 540 IPS display, a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of built-in storage (with a microSD slot, naturally).
It also has the same 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and 2300mAh battery. The latter, combined with that low-powered MediaTek CPU and Sony's battery-saving software, leads to a familiar "two-day battery life" boast.
The design of the Sony Xperia E4g is also identical to the E4, with Sony’s OmniBalance aesthetic, a textured rear surface and a slim, curved profile.
You also get Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, which may disappoint some hoping for a budget Android 5.0 Lollipop offering. Doubtless an update will be along eventually.

The one difference here, as already mentioned, is the Xperia E4g's 4G LTE connectivity, which can take advantage of the UK's rapidly expanding 4G mobile data speeds.
Tony McNulty, Sony’s VP for Value Category Businnes Management at the Mobile Comms division, sums it up nicely when he says: "Xperia E4 set out to bring many of the premium features people expect of Sony to lower-tier devices; Xperia E4g brings that same quality and ease of use – but with super-fast 4G LTE connectivity."
Sony will be releasing its Xperia E4g in April at a price of €129, which works out to around £94. There'll also be a dual-SIM variant, presumably aimed at developing countries.
