Motorola plans to extend its neat Moto Maker hardware customisation options to the Moto 360 smartwatch, reports on Thursday claimed.
According to Wired sources, customers will be able to choose their own colours and accents for the Android Wear smartphone from next month.
The report says the experience will match that of the Moto X with users able to colours for the front, back and buttons. Casings for the watch will be available in silver, black and champagne.
They’ll be able to select an personal engraving and have a custom message displayed on start-up. There’ll be a choice of leather and metal bands too.
Motorola hasn’t confirmed the move yet, but Wired has screenshots showing the new Moto Maker pages in action.
The new customisation options could help boost sales of the smartwatch and its likely successor, which may arrive as soon as MWC 2015 next week.
The original Moto 360 arrived with so much promise, yet failed to deliver in the critical stakes due to the poor battery life, high price and immature Android Wear software.

The expansion of Moto Maker comes a week after the company’s spat with Apple design guru Jony Ive.
Sir Jony had criticised Moto for ‘abdicating their responsibilities’ as designers by allowing users to choose their own designs. Moto responded by expressing how pleased it was to involve buyers in the design process.
