iOS 7 updates have proved exceedingly popular with Apple confirming that the latest mobile operating system is already running on almost two thirds of existing iPhone and iPad devices.
With the iOS 7 update having been originally rolled out to consumers on September 19, just over a month after launch, Apple has revealed that the software is now present on 64 per cent of all compatible hardware devices currently doing the rounds.
"Both new iPhones shipped with iOS 7, the biggest change to iPhone since the original iPhone,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said speaking during the company’s iPad launch event.
Describing the software as “some of Apple’s best work,” he added “customers agree, they love the bold new redesign.”
Despite the iOS 7 release having been plagued by a range of minor issues and bugs, Apple has seen high adoption rates, with further updates having been quickly released to quell concerns with the heavily refreshed software.
While the iOS 7 update is now running on 64 per cent of compatible devices, Apple added that the most eager of early adopters were numerous stating that within five days from launch, iOS 7 was already running on more than 200 million devices.
A hugely impressive figure that eclipses Android update adoption rates which are often very fragmented, Cook took a dig at the company’s rivals stating that the iOS 7 update rates “blows away the other guys.”
This 200 million iOS 7 device figure includes the 9 million new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C handsets sold during the two phones’ launch weekend. The two iPhones were the first products to come pre-installed with the new iOS 7 operating system.
