iPad sales have topped more than 170 million units to date, Apple has confirmed whilst announcing the latest additions to its tablet family.
With the originally iPad having first gone on sale a little over three years ago, the Cupertino based company has revealed in the tablet’s staggering success, stating that the iPad has become “one of the most successful products in Apple’s history.
“We launched iPad three and a half years ago with a very clear goal and a very ambitious objective,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. “Earlier this month we sold our 170 millionth iPad.”
He added: “We believed in our vision and iPad has gone on to become one of the most successful products in Apple’s history and one of the most successful in the industry.”
With the iPad Air marking a new generation of Apple tablets, the thinner, lighter, faster machine is the latest development on the company’s iPad bandwagon.
While Apple led from the front with the original iPad, the manufacturer has poked fun at the competition, stating that although its market share has dropped in recent years, it still dominates all the Android and Windows 8 tablets currently doing the rounds.
“Everyone seems to be making a tablet now, even the doubters are making them,” Cook said. “iPad is used more than any of the rest and not just a little more but a lt more. Ipad is used more than four times more than all the other put together.”
With Apple announcing the iPad milestone of 170 million unit sales, it has also revealed another landmark in the tablet’s history.
“We now have more than 470,000 apps in the App Store that have been design specifically for iPad,” Cook proudly announced,
