Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time is finally available to play on Android devices after nearly 3 months as an iOS exclusive.
The full release follows a test run in New Zealand and Australia earlier this month.
Launched for Apple technology in August, the Plants vs Zombies sequel was described as the “biggest mobile game launch in EA Games history” by creator PopCap and was downloaded more than 16 million times in its first week.
The original Plants vs Zombies was launched for PC and Mac in 2009 before being made available on iOS and Xbox Arcade Live in 2010.
Like the first game the new programme is a side-on tower defence challenge. Players must keep their home safe from a zombie invasion by strategically positioning different deadly plants. It's available for free with pay-as-you-play add-ons.
Gamers have the opportunity to shift time zones and travel back to ancient Egypt, the Wild West or a pirate ship in the new version. Plus, there are new zombies and new plant types to play and additional special-use weapons including the ability to pinch the heads off zombies.
The series will make its console debut in spring next year, with a third-person shooter named Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare launching for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Xbox One.
Gamers will be able to play both as zombies and as plants in the next installment which developers are describing as a “refreshing third person action experience backed by the Frostbite 3 engine.”
