HTC One, the cause of the public Twitter row
Smartphone giants Samsung and Twitter have aired their dirty laundry in public, engaging in a childish, catty argument across Twitter.
Kicking off in the wake of an industry awards night, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One manufacturers let their tempers get the better of themselves with mocking banter quickly escalating into a substantial argument that has seen HTC accuse its rival of paying students to write fake product reviews.
Having been handed the ‘Hottest Phone of 2013’ accolade at the Mobile Awards for the HTC One, the Taiwanese manufacturer kicked off the dispute, prodding the Samsung branded bear with a Tweet from the official HTC UK Twitter Feed.
Accompanied by a picture of the awards ceremony, the Tweet read: “Last night we won the ‘Hottest phone of 2013’ at the Mobile Awards #HTCOne.” Tormenting its rival, HTC added “Ouch @SamsungMobileUK.”
Rising to HTC’s goading remarks, the official Samsung UK Twitter feed responded: “@htc_uk That’s okay guys, our arms were full with the other three awards we took home last night. You can have that one!”
Escalating the childish dispute, HTC brought in reference to recent claims that Samsung employed students in certain markets to write falsified and disparaging reviews of its rivals’ products, including the HTC One, on forums and retailer product listings.
The HTC representatives stated: “@SamsungMobileUK all those students you paid to write fake reviews of your competitors finally paid off. Pay rise, maybe?”
A surprisingly public dispute more akin to a fan forum argument than the communications of two of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers, the Twitter bickering points towards growing tensions between the main challengers to Apple’s smartphone crown.
Helping tame the tempers, LG ended up wading in to events and acting as something of a mocking moderator, Tweeting a picture of Michael Winner alongside the slogan “Calm down dear! It’s only a phone!”
