Pentax K-50 and Pentax K-500 DSLRs launched

Pentax has launched two new DSLR cameras, the value 16.2-megapixel Pentax K-500 and the higher-end Pentax K-50, also with a 16.2-megapixel image sensor.

The DSLR duo both offer high sensitivity shooting with CMOS image sensors topping out at ISO 51200 for quality night shots.

Both cameras will be available from the end of June with an 18-55mm lens or the K-50 can be purchased in a body only option.

Pentax K-50 Features

The Pentax K-50 is a dustproof and weather-resistant camera that offers a 16.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor with an image capturing area of 23.7mm by 15.7mm. It features the Prime M imaging engine that is usually found in the most expensive DSLR models.

Capable of shooting at sensitivities of ISO 51200, the Pentax K-50 claims to offer the highest-quality night shots, and includes Pentax’s Shake Reduction mechanism to reduce any blur and combat any natural shake when shooting. It can also shoot 6 images per second.

Featuring a lightweight and compact body, the Pentax K-50 is weather-resistant, cold-resistant and dustproof, surviving temperatures down to -10 degrees centigrade. The camera can also be bought with an 18-55mm DAL lens that is also waterproof like the camera.

Available in a full range of 120 colours directly from the Pentax website, the Pentax K-50 is also capable of full HD movie recordings and can be powered by AA batteries of the standard lithium-ion battery.

The Pentax K-50 will be available from the end of June costing £529.99 body only or £599.99 with the aforementioned waterproof lens.

Pentax K-500 Features

Launched as the lower cost model of the Pentax K-50, the Pentax K500 strongly resembles the high-end model in design and packs the same 16.2-megapixel image sensor and IS0 51200 capabilities. Like the K-50, the K500 can also shoot 6 images per second.

Featuring the Pentax Shake Reduction technology, Prime M imaging engine and Full HD movie recording too, it seems that the only thing differentiating the two cameras is the Pentax K-500’s lack of waterproofing and dustproofing.

Due to this though, the Pentax K-500 is being sold at £449.99 complete with the non-waterproof version of the 18-55mm DAL lens from the end of June.
