Nintendo has confirmed a selection of upcoming Wii U games are facing delays, with the arrivals of both Wii Fit U and Wii Party U pushed back until the end of the year.
Yet another blow for the struggling Wii U console, Nintendo has revealed that the Wii U bound iterations of two of its leading franchises have been pushed back from their previously tipped ‘early 2013’ arrivals. Both games are now set to touch down later this year.
Skirting around the cause of the delays, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata suggested the games had been postponed as they “needed more time for development.”
Building on past, Wii based success, it has been claimed that Wii Fit U and Wii Party U will be moved to a pre-Christmas release in a bid to capitalise on the more casual, party-themed gaming boom around the festive period.
The latest in a long line of issues for the Nintendo console, Wii U sales have been low since launch, with the PS4 and Xbox One rival being forced by retailers into a number of successive price cuts in an effort to boost interest.
Facing renewed competition later this year, having to date been overshadowed by aging competitors, Nintendo will soon see the Wii U go head-to-head with the latest round of next-gen consoles.
With new details emerging during E3 2013, Sony and Microsoft have confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One will cost £349 and £429 respectively at launch.
