A new Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer has been officially unveiled ahead of E3 2013, with the gameplay action offering new insight into the release’s canine soldier companion.

Set to launch later this year, the new Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer has offered further insight into what gamers can expect from the upcoming title which is set to hit current-generation consoles as well as the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One.

Jumping the gun on this week’s E3 conference, Activision has confirmed that the previously announced stealth-attacking canine will be able to be controlled by gamers and will be named Riley after Modern Warfare 2 protagonist Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley.

With not one but two new Call of Duty: Ghosts trailers been unveiled, Activision and developer Infinity Ward have showcased two COD: Ghosts levels dubbed “Into the Deep” and “No Man’s Land.”

Showing a variety of gameplay options, the Into the Deep level will see gamers take part in underwater combat with submersible guns on show. On top of this, the forest based No Man’s Land level has highlighted the benefits of the controllable canine solider, with the camera and mic hosting pooch acting as something of a drone spy.

Speaking on the pre-E3 unveiling, a move which has seen new COD: Ghosts details confirmed prior to further Xbox One and PS4 demonstrations, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg suggesting the early unveil was in order to bring gamers closer to the action.

"Every year our team puts on an amazing production to showcase our games at E3, a spectacle that delivers an epic, immersive experience that takes your breath away. Yet all our fans aren't able to be here and share in the moment," he said.

He went on to add: "So, since our fans can't come to E3, we're bringing E3 to them. This year we're making sure the Call of Duty community is first in line to see Call of Duty: Ghosts as we kick-off what's going to be a historic week."

A Call of Duty: Ghosts release date has been set for November 5 for current-gen consoles and PC gamers. Next-gen gaming options will follow when the new consoles hit retailers.
