Twitter wants to cram even more app ads into your feed

Twitter appears to be trialling a bold new advertising service on its mobile app in an effort to push third-party software installations.

Several users have reported that their Twitter feeds are now playing host to a large advertising carousel titled ‘Suggested Apps’.

This carousel lets your swipe left and right between various app advertisements, with a fairly conspicuous ‘Install’ button stamped front and centre on each ad, as reported by TheNextWeb.

The new feature takes up most of the page, marking it as seriously prime marketing space for potential advertisers.

Twitter pushing software through in-app advertising isn’t anything new, but it’s now clearly taking a much less subtle approach.

Traditionally, Twitter’s advertisements have been blended in as tweets within a feed so they don’t look out of place.

This new advertising platform appears to be similar to Facebook’s advertising approach. The rival social network also displays prominent app ads paired with ‘Install’ buttons.

The advertising carousel has only been reported within the last 24 hours, and not everyone is being served the ads, indicating that Twitter is still trialling it.

Twitter recently revealed it has 288 million monthly active users, and is now seeking new ways to capitalise on the huge user-base.

Yesterday we heard that Twitter was looking to seriously upgrade its data sales to commercial interests.

The company also recently revealed it wanted to increase the amount of ads display in your feed, so this latest marketing ploy comes as no surprise.
