Moto X pre-order available now, shipping on October 6

The new Moto X was one of the highlights of last week’s IFA, and now the phone is available to pre-order.

The handset can be yours from Phones 4u for free on a £34.50 a month contract. Phones 4u also has exclusive rights to the bamboo version, so it’s the place to shop if you fancy a handset with a wooden finish.

Phones 4u will deliver the phone on October 6, so you’ll have to wait about a month for it.

The new Moto X brings the Moto Maker customisation to these shores (previously it was only available to US customers). The phone is wider, taller, and slightly thinner than last year’s Moto X, and manages to pack in some impressive features.

Moto Voice, for example, brings the same ace voice controls as last year’s model, but is now bespoke – you can choose a different phrase to trigger it, rather than having to say “OK Google” every time.

You can also turn off an alarm by waving your hand over the phone, and see notifications in detail while still in low power mode.

It has a 13-megapixel rear camera, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facer that’s capable of shooting in 4K.

There’s also turbo charging support, which gives you eight hours of battery life from just 15 minutes of charging. Should come in handy.

It’s bigger than its predecessor, with a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen with toughened Corning Gorilla Glass. It might not be a 4K screen like the LG G3, but it still manages a very impressive pixel per inch count of 423ppi.

Will you snap up a Moto X? Or are you waiting for tomorrow’s Apple announcement? Let us know in the comments.
