EA looking to develop dedicated Apple Watch games

The Apple Watch was officially unveiled last night, and now developers are clamouring to get their digital wares to work with the smartwatch.

One such giant looking down this avenue is EA. The company’s Vice President of Mobile, Frank Gibeau, has suggested that it is already looking at creating dedicated Apple Watch games.

"One of the things we're intrigued with in the mobile division is seeing wearables emerge as a gaming platform," Gibeau said speaking with

He added: "Now with Apple's big announcement with the Watch, there's a trend here where wearables are going to increase in performance, capability and unique functions over time that we believe will enable gaming experiences.

Apple Watch games aren’t just a distant thought for EA, either. The company reportedly has teams of developers currently working on wearable titles.

Gibeau stated: “We have two teams prototyping wearable experiences that are not only standalone, but also some ideas where you can actually use the fitness component in the watch that can unlock capabilities in the game that might be on your iPhone.”

He added: "Or you could do crafting or some other auction trading on your watch that goes back into your tablet game that you might check out later when you get home.

"So we're pretty excited about it; We think it's very early days. But for EA, the emergence of another gaming platform is compelling for us."

The Apple Watch was formally unveiled last night, September 9, alongside the new iPhone 6. The wearable, which will go head-to-head with the likes of the Moto 360 and LG G Watch, features an innovative new UI controlled by a ‘digital crown’.
