Logitech has launched its “Made for iPhone” Logitech PowerShell game controller for iPhone 5S and other select iOS 7 devices.

The Logitech PowerShell turns the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5 or iPod touch running iOS 7 into a screen surrounded by a controller with the usual array of console buttons.

It also comes with an in-built battery to “roughly double” the average battery life of the device.

“We designed this controller to deliver a true console-gaming experience on an iOS 7 mobile device,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, General Manager of the Logitech Gaming Business. “With gaming so pervasive on the mobile platform – our research shows that 87 per cent of iPhone and iPod touch users play games on their device – it’s time to revolutionise the experience.”

Logitech PowerShell Features

Rivalling the Moga Ace Power iOS 7 controller launched earlier this week, the Logitech PowerShell actually offers fewer controller features.

It has a D-pad, buttons and shoulder bumper triggers, but lacks the dual analogue sticks of the Moga Ace Power.

This does mean that the Logitech PowerShell is a lot slimmer and thinner than the Moga iOS 7 controller.

Logitech has equipped its iOS 7 controller with a 1500mAh battery for increased play time, which is an added bonus.

It also leaves the phone buttons exposed so you can still take pictures, make calls or use other features with the device still holstered in the PowerShell.

You will have to check if your favourite iPhone 5 and iPod touch games are compatible with the controller though, as Logitech suggests some may not be.

“With controller-compatible games, there's no extra software to install. Just download a favourite and go. Check the App Store frequently for the latest controller-compatible game releases.”

Currently the compatible list includes titles like Asphalt 8: Airborne, Limbo, Lego: The Lord of the Rings and Scribblenauts Remix, but Logitech has published the full list.

Logitech PowerShell Release Date and Price

The Logitech PowerShell is retailing for $99.99 in the US and is available now from BestBuy and the Apple Online Store. Logitech says it expects global availability in December, with the UK price kept quiet for now.
