Sony Xperia Z2 specs and design confirmed

After leaked images hinted at the look of the Sony Xperia Z2, a fresh report claims to have confirmed the forthcoming phone’s specifications.

Yesterday we brought you snaps of the Sony Xperia D6503, which looked every inch like the rumoured Sony Xperia Z1 follow-up we’ve been expecting.

Today sees confirmation from one source as to this phone’s credentials, as well as affirmation of the Sony Xperia Z2’s vital statistics.

A report over at Xperia Blog confirms that this is the so-called 'Sirius,' the code-name for the Sony Xperia Z2. It also confirms that the Z2 will sport a larger 5.2-inch 1080p display, which is where those thinner side bezels that we commented on come in.

Elsewhere, the report confirms that the Sony Xperia Z2 will run on a Qualcomm MSM8974AB chipset featuring a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and an Adreno 330 GPU. This will be backed by 3GB of RAM.

The Z2’s main camera will indeed be a 20.7-megapixel example, while the front camera will be 2.1-megapixel.

Apparently, despite recently leaked screenshots (see below) added to the original XDA Developers post showing the Sony Xperia Z2 running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the final model will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

As we saw yesterday, the Sony Xperia Z2 will look very similar to the Sony Xperia Z1, with the same functional rectangular design and an almost identical control and port layout.

We’re hoping to see some kind of official announcement for the Sony Xperia Z2 some time around the end of February when MWC rolls into Barcelona.
