Samsung's connected appliances are coming
Samsung has claimed that connected appliances are ‘a natural progression’ of the sector, despite suggesting that it will take some time for UK consumers to adopt the technologies.
With much talk continuing to circulate around connected appliances, such as internet-connected fridges, washing machines and vacuum cleaners, Samsung has claimed that as consumers become increasingly familiar with Wi-Fi enabled devices, it is only natural that appliances are thrown into the mix.
“Because Wi-Fi connectivity is on more and more devices, and people are becoming more and more comfortable with it, then the concept of bringing it all together in appliances is just a natural progression," Russell Owens, Samsung’s Head of Digital Appliances said speaking with TrustedReviews.
Despite labelling the move ‘a natural progression’, Owens has hinted that it could still be some time before the average British kitchen and laundry room is fully connected.
“It’s still very much at the concept stage at the moment,” he told us. “It’s the sort of thing that will typically be brought out in the US and Korea first - probably this year.”
He added: “It’s just the start of that now. It will take a little bit more time to come over to Europe and the UK market.
“We’ve already got Wi-Fi connected devices in refrigeration and laundry that we sell in the US and Korea. We’ve just started launching Wi-Fi capable washing machines in the UK now which you can control with your phone.”
Discussing the benefits of the futuristic, connected appliances, the Samsung head stated: “If you’re out and you want to delay the cycle of your washing machine or turn it on just as you’re going home you can do so.”
