LG lands iWatch display deal ahead of Q3 2014 launch?

LG has reportedly signed a deal with Apple to produce the Apple iWatch displays, with a launch scheduled for Q3 2013.

The iWatch rumour mill has started grinding out gossip again and reports suggest LG has secured the display deal.

According to the Korean media, LG has signed an exclusivity deal with Apple to ensure it is the only iWatch display manufacturer.

Rumours of an LG/Apple iWatch partnership originally emerged in October 2013, but this latest leak seemingly supports that report.

The Korean report indicates that the iWatch panels could be 1.52-inches in size and use the same plastic OLED display technology used in the LG G Flex.

There’s also news of a potential iWatch release date, with the panels entering mass production in Q3 2014 and the initial production volume is 2 million units.

Of course, as always, you have to treat such information with a lot of scepticism, especially as the Korean report has since been pulled from Korean site ddaily.co.kr for unknown reasons.

It could be that the site has revealed something it shouldn’t have, but more like that subsequent information has proved the original report was false.

Predictions from DisplaySearch earlier this month put the Apple iWatch launch in line with the iPhone 6 in September.

Those predictions tipped the iWatch to have a 1.3- or 1.6-inch flexible AMOLED display, with image densities of 348ppi and 278ppi respectively.
