Apple Mac Pro specs detailed with 12-core CPU and 4K credentials


Apple has offered up new details on its upcoming computers, with the Apple Mac Pro specs and release details officially confirmed.


Announced during the company’s October 22 launch event, the next-generation Mac Pro will go on sale later this year, with the futuristic computer set to play host to a mind-bending array of premium components and high-end innards.


“It's not a stretch to say people have been blown away by this incredible new design,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Market said in unveiling the new Mac Pro. "It is a computer that packs an incredible amount of power into one-eighth the volume of the previous model. It is our vision of the future of the pro desktop."

Set to be a true behemoth of the computing scene, the next-gen Apple Mac Pro will offer a range of specification options, with all manner of components taking the Apple desktop into the future. “There are so many innovations, it is simply remarkable,” Schiller stated.


Powered by an Intel Xeon E5 processor, the Apple Mac Pro will come with a CPU ranging from impressive quad-core options to a massive 12-core specification. On top of this, the new Mac Pro can run 1866MHz DDR3 ECC RAM up to 64GB.


With models ranging from 256GB to 1TB in terms of internal storage, Schiller revealed that “Storage inside is all flash based as you cannot put a harddrive in that is as fast as flash.”


Revealing a specific model which will go on sale this year, Apple has confirmed that the first Mac Pro model will come with a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon processor alongside 12GB of DRAM, Dual FirePro D300 graphics and a 256GB SSD.


The Mac Pro features a mass of connectivity options too, with each computer coming with four USB 3 ports, six Thunderbolt 2 connections, a HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.


On top of this, the Mac Pro will support 4K TVs, with 4K video output made possible thanks to an integrated HDMI 1.4 port.



Apple Mac Pro Release Date and Price


Set to be assembled in the US, Schiller as revealed that the Mac Pro will “be available before the end of the year.” Although failing to set an exact date, he added an Apple Mac Pro release date will be held in Decemeber.


For the specification laid out above, the Mac Pro price will start at a premium $2999 (£1850).
