Sales of Nokia Lumia smartphones have hit a record high as Nokia gears up to release another batch of Windows Phone 8 devices.
It represents the fourth consecutive quarter in which Nokia Lumia sales have hit a new peak.
According to the Wall Street Journal's sources, Nokia sold "at least eight million" Nokia Lumia phones between July and September. Obviously this doesn't even approach Apple or Samsung figures, but for a Windows Phone platform that comes a distant third to iOS and Android in usage numbers it's truly noteworthy.
It's an improvement on the previous quarter's record-smashing 7.4 million sales. It's also a massive increase on the same quarter last year, during which Nokia sold only 2.9 million Lumia phones.
Nokia will be taking this impressive momentum into tomorrow's launch event in Abu Dhabi, during which it's expected to launch six new devices.
Among these new devices will be the much leaked Nokia Lumia 1520, which will be a high-end 'phablet' device in the vein of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
In recent days, arch tipster @evleaks has confirmed the specs of this new jumbo-sized smartphone. The Nokia Lumia 1520 will apparently feature a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 6-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage, a 20-megapixel PureView camera, and Qi wireless charging.
We're also expecting to see the launch of Nokia's first ever tablet, the Nokia Lumia 2520, which should boast a 10.1-inch 1080p display.
