The iconic SodaStream has joined the Internet of Things era with a connected mixer that promises to jazz up the evening with carbonated cocktails.
The new SodaStream Mix allows users to pre-select their cocktail recipe and transmit the information to the mixer, either via the high quality touchscreen or the cloud-connected companion app.
The Mix app will make it easy to select or add cocktail recipes and send the carbonation information directly to the elegant Yves Behar-designed machine.
The really smart part comes through the build in software, which informs the level of combination depending on the ingredients and spirits used in the recipe. So, for example, an old fashioned would be carbonated differently to a chocolate martini or a fruit-based cocktail.
"In this product we made the bubbles much smaller and more refined," SodaStream’s Chief Innovation and Design Officer Yaron Kopel said during the unveiling at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan (via CoolHunting.com). "A different level of carbonation suits a different beverage."
“MIX calibrates the beverage inside of the bottle, even if it contains fruit or pulp, and utilizes a new carbonation technology that includes CO2 injection, stirrer technology pressure regulation and software configuration to control the release of pressure.
“The stirrer technology also helps to perfect the bubbles and refine the drink. The result is like nothing in the market today."

The SodaStream Mix, which has been two years in the making, is expected to become available in 2016, but there’s no news on price or release date yet.
Given the time-honoured gadget is finally embracing adult beverages, can we finally say the SodaStream has come of age?
