Olympus Stylus 1s
Olympus has announced a new high-end point and shoot camera, the Olympus Stylus 1s.
As the name might suggest, the Stylus 1s is an incremental update of the Olympus Stylus 1, which was announced around 18 months ago.
This means that you're getting a very familiar (and pretty decent) compact camera with the same i.Zuiko fixed lens offering a constant f/2.8 aperture across its 10.7x zoom range. The Stylus 1s also comes with the same 1/1.7-inch 12 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor as its predecessor.
It's a similar story on the outside, with familiar retro looks and unusually extensive manual controls, including a hybrid control ring at the base of the lens. However, Olympus has created a more premium all-metal casing, and has apparently added new textures to make it easier and more pleasant to hold.
There are also some internal enhancements. For example, there's a new Small Target AF function that helps with pinpoint autofocus.
Elsewhere, there's a step zoom function that offers nine preset focal lengths, including the ever-popular and useful 35mm.
Meanwhile, the 1.44 million dot EVF offers automatic eye detection that instantly switches between it and the LCD depending on which you're using.

Olympus also seems keen to point out that the Stylus 1s is compatible with its WCON-08X wide angle converter lens, which extends the focal range without affecting that constant f/2.8 aperture.
The Olympus Stylus 1s goes on sale this summer for €549 (£397).
