Should go swimmingly

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year or so, you'll know there's no shortage of smartwatches about. Swimmo is made specifically for swimming.

It's like having a personal coach on your wrist. Its aim is to keep you on track to achieving your goals, and to keep you motivated while you do so. At the heart of it are two features: IntensityCoach and PaceKeeper.

IntensityCoach helps you stay in the optimum heart rate zone – not too high so you burn out, but not so low that you're taking it easy. PaceKeeper, meanwhile, aims to keep you at the optimum pace. There's no need to stop swimming to check either of these. The watch vibrates to let you know if you're working too hard or not hard enough.

Of course it boasts all the usual fitness tracking skills too. It tracks your distance in laps, yards or metres, measures how many calories you've burned and analyses how fast you swam throughout your workout and in every single lap. It also measures your heart rate and how long you trained for.

The app is available for Android and iOS and lets you tailor your workout. If you want to burn a certain number of calories, tell it, and it'll guide you towards your goal by advising you during your workout. Maybe you want to swim a certain distance or just swim for a certain amount of time. It can help you do the lot.

It also lasts for between five and seven days on a single charge. Which is a lot longer than a certain watch we could mention.

It's raised over $17,000 on Kickstarter, and has 33 days to hit its $39,000 goal. It'll ship in October, and can be yours for $149 (£100).
