The Samsung Galaxy A8 has been leaked in a new report that suggests the South Korean tech giant has a formidable mid-range handset in the works.
According to Sammobile, an anonymous source has revealed that the Galaxy A8 – model number SM-A800F – is currently being developed by Samsung.
While the alleged specs aren’t set in stone yet, some details on the device’s components have seemingly leaked.
Perhaps most important is that it will carry a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. That makes it the first non-flagship Galaxy smartphone to do so.
The report also claims the front-facing sensor will offer a 5-megapixel resolution, which isn’t particularly groundbreaking.
The A8 also appears to be the largest Galaxy A-series smartphone we’ve seen so far, proffering a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display.
Fortunately, dimensions appear to have been kept relatively constrained, measuring 157.7 x 76.7 x 5.9mm, with a weight of 140g. It’s worth noting that the prequel Galaxy A7 had a 6.3mm profile, which makes this new offering impressively slim.
Purportedly powering the handset is Qualcomm’s 64-bit octa-core Snapragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, and a beefy 3,050 mAh lithium-ion battery.

The device is also expected to carry Samsung’s new and improved TouchWiz UX, which is based on Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.
The final titbit of information is that the Galaxy A8 looks set to offer LTE support, which marks this as an impressive mid-range smartphone.
Samsung has made no official comment regarding the Galaxy A7 successor, but we’ll keep you posted if this changes.
