Scoot on now

If you think scooters are just for kids, take a look at ElectricMood.

It's a natty electric model that folds up like a Brompton so you take it on the bus, train, or pack it in the boot of your car. It weighs just 10kg, and when folded can be dragged around like a wheelie case thanks to the extra set of wheels.

It has some pretty smart innards too. A rechargeable lithium battery powers a 500W engine that's brushless, which means there are no belts or chains. That should make upkeep a doddle.

It's designed for city living, so is limited to a top speed of 16mph. Any faster, and you'd be a hazard to pedestrians. It will go for 12 miles before needing a recharge, which should get you to work.

The deck is wide enough to stand with both feet side by side, so you can face forwards instead of side-on. Its 12-inch pneumatic wheels should be able to handle whatever the city streets throw your way. There's no suspension though, so watch out for potholes.

Front and rear LED lights make sure you can be seen, and it even has disk brakes and mudguards to keep you safe and clean. A display on the handlebars tells you how much battery power is left too, so you won't be stranded halfway home.

All this comes at a price. It will cost $1,195 (£776) when it goes on sale in September, though you can nab one early for a couple of hundred dollars less.
