Xbox One screenshot function

The Xbox One is finally set to get a screenshot feature, it's been confirmed.

Microsoft has been promising the ability to capture a screen grab on its console for some time now.

Back in early October, Xbox chief Phil Spencer confirmed that the Xbox One would be getting the feature. Then, later that month, he revealed that the implementation had been delayed until 2015.

Now we've heard from Spencer again on this much sought-after feature, and it seems as if it's in the final stage of development before release.

Spencer tweeted the above screengrab of the forthcoming screenshot feature in operation, along with the sentence "Nice to finally be doing this on my Xbox One dev kit."

He followed this up by explaining: "Team will do a proper intro to the feature when it's ready for preview. UI and activation is all debug right now."

Of course, you've been able to take screenshots on the PS4 for a while now. It's also unusual that you've been able to broadcast live footage of your Xbox One gameplay and share recorded clips, but you haven't been able to do something so simple as share a screenshot of one of your achievements or discoveries.

Still, Microsoft has kept up an admirable rate of firmware updates over the past year or so, so it's hardly been idle. The screenshot feature may feel like it's a little late in the day, but it'll be a welcome addition nonetheless.
