HTC is reportedly working on a new tablet based on the Nexus 9.
The Nexus 9 was, of course, built by HTC anyway, although it was designed and sold under Google’s Nexus mobile device program.
Prior to the Nexus 9, HTC’s tablet success had been minimal. Both the HTC Flyer and the HTC Jetstream largely flopped.
Even the Nexus 9 was widely criticised, although it landed as by far HTC’s most successful tablet.
It seems that the Nexus 9 has spurred HTC to get back in the tablet game however, with the Taiwanese company apparently building its own rival slate, as outed by leaker Upleaks.
What’s more, the tablet will reportedly also use a 9-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which puts it in direct competition with its Google-officiated device.
The specs will be different however, although it’s not yet clear whether the device will be high-end or low-end.

While having mostly failed with tablets in the past, HTC has seen plenty of success with its flagship One smartphone series.
If HTC can rectify issues with the Nexus 9 and apply some of its smartphone prowess to tablet manufacturing, the new device could be a cracker.
TrustedReviews gave the Nexus 9 an 8/10 score, praising it for its big, sharp screen, a powerful Nvidia GPU, and a good battery life.
It fell short of Apple’s tablet fare however, criticised for lacklustre design and build quality compared to an iPad, backlight leakage, and slightly disappointing stereo speakers.
