Amazon’s first smartphone is now UK-bound, with an Amazon Fire Phone UK release date having being pencilled in for September 30.
A US exclusive since its unveiling back in June, Amazon has now confirmed the Fire Phone will be handed a UK release later this month. The innovative smartphone will be offered exclusively through O2 in the UK.
Far from your standard Samsung Galaxy S5 or iPhone 5S challenger, the Amazon Fire Phone benefits from a Dynamic Perspective display.
This feature sees four front-facing cameras used to detect a user’s face movements. This data is then used to give on-screen content a 3D effect.
Smart screen aside, the Fire Phone’s specs sheet is a pretty middle of the road affair. The 4.7-inch panel features a standard 1280 x 720p HD resolution. It is partnered with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.
The phone’s hardware list is rounded off by a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera, a 2.1-megapixel snapper up front, 32GB of internal storage and a 2400mAh Lithium-Ion battery.
On the software side, Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat OS offers the basis beneath the heavy Amazon Fire UI skin. The company’s Firefly technology is also present, with users able to add numbers and addresses to their handset simply by pointing their device’s at relevant details.
The Amazon Fire Phone will be available for free on O2’s £33 per month, two year contracts. There is currently no word on potential SIM-free pricing.
The news of the Amazon Fire Phone UK release date comes just days after the company’s TV streaming box was confirmed for a UK launch.
Amazon Fire TV will hit the UK on October 23.
