HTC Android Wear watch teaser
The HTC Android Wear watch is still on the cards for a launch, although it won’t arrive until 2015.
The latest report suggests that HTC is still preparing to launch a smartwatch early next year, despite rumours that the Taiwanese company had abandoned its wearable plans.
According to “people familiar with the matter” talking to CNET, the HTC Android Wear watch is still on track for launch and will be released in early 2015 – just in time to rival the Apple Watch most likely.
The report claims HTC’s smartwatch will be a little different to the Android Wear watches currently on the market, like the LG G Watch or the upcoming Moto 360.
Those “familiar with the plans” went as far to suggest the HTC smartwatch will have elements of design and features that will immediately attract consumers.
HTC recently sent out invites to an October 8 event in New York, but sources suggest this will not be for the watch.
If HTC does launch its own Android Wear watch next year it’ll be released into a densely packed wearable market.
There are already a tonne of smartwatches out there, such as the Samsung Gear Live, and there are more on the horizon like the Sony SmartWatch 3, LG G Watch R and Withings Activité.
Originally the HTC Android Wear watch was scheduled to be released before the end of this year, but now it’s looking more likely for a 2015 launch.
