Sony SmartBand and LifeLog app
The Sony SmartBand fitness tracker has gone on sale in the UK for £80.
Sony’s “innovative life logging wrist band” is now available from the Sony Store in the UK for £79.99.
Although there are a range of coloured bands available, you’ll have to initially buy the black or special 2014 World Cup edition. After that, you can just pop out the removable core, which is IP58 water-resistant, and insert it into another strap.
The SmartBand connects with Android phones via Bluetooth or NFC and vibrates with smartphone notifications like calls or messages.
You can use the SmartBand to play, pause and skip music tracks and the vibration on the device can be used as a wake up alarm. This will apparently happen at an optimum time for you, based on your sleep cycle.
Working in conjunction with the Sony LifeLog app, the SmartBand lets you set activity goals and then charts your progress towards them thanks to its in-built sensor technology.
The SmartBand can tell if you’ve been walking, cycling, driving or travelling in any way, counting the steps taken, speed travelled, calories burnt and other fitness data.
Moving beyond the fitness stuff, the SmartBand helps you create what Sony calls a “life blog”.
You can press the Life Bookmark key on your SmartBand to tag a great restaurant or a song you’re listening to that you particularly love.
The LifeLog app then collates all your Life Bookmarks along with your camera and music activities together, presenting them in a unique way to give you an overview of your day, week, month or even year.
