Nintendo has announced a new deal with O2 UK that lets Nintendo 3DS owners tap into O2 Wi-Fi hotspots for free.
Owners of the latest Nintendo handheld console will be able to play online games and more for free via O2 Wi-Fi hotspots in over 7000 highstreet locations starting from today.
3DS users can browse the web, connect to the 3DS shop and play online games in public places on O2’s dime with the new O2 and Nintendo deal.
Using Nintendo Zone, 3DS users will automatically connect to the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot when in an appropriate location, such as branches of McDonalds, Costa Coffee, Pizza Hut and House of Frazer.
Huge venues like Twickenham, Bluewater and The O2 Arena are also fitted with O2 Wi-Fi hotspots that 3DS users can tap into for free.
“Nintendo is a leading brand in the gaming world and have shown real innovation in the industry, making them an ideal partner for O2 Wi-Fi,” said Gavin Franks, Managing Director of O2 Wi-Fi. “With the popularity of online multiplayer gaming continuing to rise, customers are looking for a fast, free, accessible Wi-Fi connection when they’re on the move – something that we know is becoming perceived as a right, rather than a privilege.”
The free O2 Wi-Fi is also available with the Nintendo 3DS XL handheld console as well as the 3DS, as long as the user has the latest software update installed on the device.
“This deal will enable Nintendo 3DS gamers to automatically connect their device to O2 Wi-Fi whenever they are in over 7,000 hotspots across the UK’s top venues, restaurants and retailers. It’s a great example of how we’re delivering brilliant digital experiences for our customers.”
