SpongeBob SquarePants coming to LoveFilm UK
Amazon has signed a deal with Viacom to bring Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. content to its LoveFilm service.
LoveFilm subscribers will now have access to a host of new TV shows from Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. MTV and Comedy Central as part of a recent deal with Viacom.
Making the TV and movie streaming service increasingly child-friendly, LoveFilm UK will now host kids’ TV shows like Fairly Odd Parents, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.
Children can also enjoy Blue’s Clues and the Backyardigans as part of the Viacom deal, which could help the Amazon-owned service battle against Netflix.
“Amazon has created a unique, brand-friendly environment for streaming entertainment and consumer products and we are excited to work with Amazon to bring customers show they love,” said President and CEO of Viacom.
LoveFilm is trying to bolster its range of content, and seeing as Netflix already has access to Nickelodeon shows it will be increasingly able to match its TV offerings.
The Amazon-owned streaming service recently added US drama Vikings to its libraries , which exclusively premiered on LoveFilm from May 24.
Starring Gabriel Byrne of The Usual Suspects fame, Vikings is currently the number one new US TV series and is exclusively available from LoveFilm in the UK.
Rival Netflix has also been bolstering its exclusive content with its original TV Series House of Cards doing extremely well on the service.
It also recently showcased the exclusive fourth season of comedy Arrested Development on the streaming service, which produced roughly twice as many viewers in the opening weekend as House of Cards – currently the top-most watched show on the service.
LoveFilm is available on devices like the PS3, Xbox 360, iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Subscribers can also download the smartphone app on phones like the Google Nexus 4 and iPhone 5.
