iPhone 5S to be released with “at least two screen sizes”?

Apple could be releasing the iPhone 5S with multiple screen sizes this year, with a rumoured release date set for sometime this summer.

Brian White, an analyst at Topeka Capital, is currently in the seventh day of a technology supplier tour in China and Taiwan and has discovered Apply may well be releasing the iPhone 5 with a variety of screen size options.

“After our meeting with a tech-supply chain company, we walked away with the view that Apple will release the iPhone 5S in at least two screen sizes this summer and possibly three,” said White.

The current Apple iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch screen that was increased from the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. It certainly looks tiny in comparison to the vast 5-inch screen of the Sony Xperia Z or the 4.7-inches on the HTC One. Although many people may find the iPhone 5’s size adequate, there may be people who are yearning for a larger screen size.

“Essentially, we believe Apple is coming around to the fact that one size per iPhone release does not work for everyone and offering consumers an option has the potential to expand the company’s market share,” added White.

Apple has a history of releasing different screen sizes for its devices. The iPad 4 and iPad mini mean that the Apple slate is now offered in two sizes, whilst the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac can be purchased in two different size options respectively.

Manufacturing an iPhone in different sizes could mean issues for app developers though, but Apple is bound to figure out a work around for such a problem.

Tipped to launch this summer, the iPhone 5S is rumoured to be little more than an update to the existing iPhone 5. The handset will look very similar to the current iPhone 5, perhaps with all new screen sizes, but will bring a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM to bring the iPhone 5S in line with Android flagships like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

We could see the iPhone 5S unveiled at the WWDC event in June, with the handset potentially sporting the new iOS 7 software.
