ZTE has launched the ZTE Geek, the first smartphone to pack Intel’s new 32nm Atom processor Z2580, also known as the Intel Clover Trail+.
Unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing, China, the smartphone has a 5-inch HD screen and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean via the 2GHz Intel Clover Trail+ processor.
“Our recent collaboration with Intel on the ZTE Geek builds on the success of the Grand Series and further enhances our competitiveness in the high-end smartphone market,” said ZTE EVP and Head of the Mobile Devices Division, Mr. He Shiyou. “This partnership with also improve customer experience by providing them with more choices in the market.”
ZTE Geek Features
The main draw of the ZTE Geek is its 2GHz Intel 32nm Atom processor Z2580 or Clover Trail+. Intel’s own tests have shown that the new processor is twice as for computing, but thrice as speedy for graphics as previous processors, whilst also reducing power consumption. The Intel Atom processor is also used in the Lenovo K900, a 5.5-inch superphone.
The ZTE Geek features a 5-inch screen touting a 1,280 x 720p resolution and runs the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. With 8GB eMMC 1GB of RAM, the ZTE Geek also packs a 2300mAh battery.
An 8-megapixel camera in the rear is bolstered by an 1-megapixel front-facing snapper and an LED supplement light. The ZTE Geek also packs Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity, with 4G LTE support as yet unconfirmed.
The prototype on display at IDF had a glossy white finish, and sports a clean look similar to the ZTE Grand S. Final dimensions are also unknown, but from the press images currently on offer, the nerdishly-named ZTE Geek looks to be a fairly slim handset with curves edges to the rear.
ZTE Geek Release Date and Price
The ZTE Geek on show at the IDF is still far from a final retail unit, so ZTE has yet to announced any pricing or availability details for the ZTE Geek.
