Sony Xperia Z3 released alongside Z3 Compact

The Sony Xperia Z3 has been officially released in the UK, with the flagship phone hitting retailer's shelves alongside its smaller sibling, the Z3 Compact.

With both handsets having been unveiled at IFA 2014 earlier this month, the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are now on sale for the first time.

One of the first sellers to offer the Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 rival is high street seller Carphone Warehouse.

Sony's third flagship phone refresh in just 12 months, the Xperia Z3 features a veritable feast of premium components.

Packing a 5.2-inch, 1080p Full HD display alongside a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, the handset adds a 20.7-megapixel primary camera and Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

While the Z3 Compact packs the same snapper and processor as its big brother, as its name suggests, the phone features a scaled down display.

The Compact offers a 4.6-inch panel with a slightly disappointing 720p, HD resolution.

While both handsets are being offered in a variety of hues - black and gold for the Z3, black, white and orange for the Z3 Compact, Carphone Warehouse has confirmed it will exclusively offer further colour schemes.

As well as a white Z3, the retailer will be the sole stockist of a green Z3 Compact.

While a Sony Xperia Z3 price has been set at £549.95 SIM-free (£38 per month on a two year deal), the Z3 Compact will set wannabe owners back 'just' £429.95 (£28 per month).
