Apple’s Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite software is almost ready for a full consumer launch.
As Microsoft was launching Windows 10 at a special media event, Apple quietly rolled out the latest beta version of its new desktop software.
However, this wasn’t any old beta, it’s the first ‘golden master candidate,’ which will be one of the very last versions before the company makes the software available to the public.
It’s likely that this version will allow devs to weed out the last few bugs before Apple gives it the green light and seeds the software to the Mac App Store.
The consumer launch is expected to happen sometime in October at an event, which could include the launch of new iPads, MacBooks and iMacs, if recent speculation is to be believed.
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite was launched at the WWDC conference in June, promising a design that feels more and more like the Apple’s iOS platform.
Among the most anticipated features are Continuity, which allows users to take iPhone calls and receive text messages on their Mac, as well as the revamped Notifications Centre and Spotlight tools.
The firm has also given its individual apps like Safari, Messages and Mail a serious makeover. A brand new Photos app will launch in 2015, while the iCloud Drive platform introduced with iOS 8 will also be part of Yosemite.
