HTC One M8 Max rejoins the rumour merry-go-round

HTC may still be preparing to launch a phablet-sized version of the critically acclaimed HTC One M8 smartphone.

According to reports in China, the handset dubbed HTC One M8 Max is still very much on the agenda, despite rumours petering out in recent months.

Chinese website MyDrivers.com reckons the handset will be here by the end of the year sporting a 5.5-inch qHD 2,560x1,440 display.

The report claims the device will arrive with an 18-megapixel camera, a lightning-fast 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. It’ll also feature 3GB of RAM and boast a 3,000mAh battery pack, apparently.

Of course, Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC Sense 6.5 would also be on board, according to the new speculation.

While the report promises a phablet that would certainly be capable of challenging the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus , we are still taking this one with a large dose of salt.

It’s been so quiet on this front lately that most observers believe HTC has canned the project, but perhaps Apple getting in on the phablet act has revived the firm’s ambitions?

It’s last phablet, the whopping HTC One Max release last year, boasted a 5.9-inch full HD screen, although it failed to resonate with consumers.
