Samsung Galaxy Note 4 tipped to be water-resistant like S5

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 could arrive with the same water- and dust-resistant qualities as the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S5.

According to a new report from the Korean media, the Galaxy Note 4 will be water- and dust-resistant when it launches later this year.

Earlier rumours suggested that all future Samsung Galaxy smartphones would be water- and dust-resistant, so this latest report would fall in line with that leaked information.

The Korean media suggests the Galaxy Note 4 will have the same IP67 rating as the Galaxy S5 thanks to the Liquid Silicon Moulding water resistance method introduced with the 2014 flagship.

That IP67 rating means it can be submerged in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes.

We aren’t surprised that Samsung is potentially planning to introduce water-resistance features to the Note series, seeing as the S Pen stylus weidling smartphone tends to build upon the specs of the Galaxy flagship.

Other Galaxy Note 4 rumours include a 20-megapixel rear camera, which would bring its camera specs closer to that of the 20.7-megapixel Sony Xperia Z2.

The sources suggested Samsung “began to develop the 20-megapixel smartphone camera module with a view to releasing it in the second half of 2014.”

The Galaxy Note 4 is also expected to feature a 6-inch display potentially with advanced handwriting recognition.

A patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office outlined a way of unlocking the Note 4 using your handwriting, similar to the way you can with the existing Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 3.

However, the patent developed this further to allow users to perform commands from the lock screen, just by writing them.

The example used in the patent was writing “call mom” using the S Pen, which would then simultaneously unlock the device using handwriting recognition and then call your mum for you.

The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to launch sometime in September.
