The LG G Watch has been announced and will be the first to be powered by Google's Android Wear OS.
LG has revealed that it is working together with Google on its LG G Watch smartwatch, which will be available some time in Q2 2014.
The two companies have worked together since the initial development stages on the G Watch to make sure Android Wear was implemented in the best way possible.
From launch, it will be compatible with a "wide range of Android smartphones" and will offer only the most relevant information, offering anything else via touch screen or voice commands.
Basically, the LG G Watch is the Google Nexus 5 equivalent in a smartwatch, and will be the fourth device LG has developed in collaboration with Google, following the success of the Nexus 4.
“The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all stops in both design and engineering,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”
All hardware specs and further information will be revealed in the coming months by LG. Until then, you can enjoy the rather cryptic teaser image shown above.
LG has also revealed that the device is not yet confirmed for the UK market, so we'll have to wait and see if Google's smartwatch arrives on our shores.
