Following last night’s LG G Watch confirmation, the Korean manufacturer has told us the inbound smartwatch will be “an entirely new beast” compared with the 2009 launched LG Watch Phone.
Although the manufacturer has remaining coy on concrete LG G Watch specs and features, James Marshall, the European Director of LG Mobile Communications has suggested the new wearable will be an entirely new proposition than its last watch-based gadget.
Speaking with TrustedReviews, Marshall said the upcoming LG G Watch will be “an entirely new beast” from the LG Watch Phone and is a device that is set to “ride the current wave of wearables.”
Officially announced in the wake of Google’s Android Wear launch last night, the LG G Watch is heading for a Q2 launch, powered by a wearable version of Google’s dominant mobile OS.
Although the upcoming Samsung Gear 2 and Sony Smartwatch 2 rival has been formally unveiled, LG is remaining tight-lipped on what features the wrist wear will host, despite branding it a “statement of intent” on the wearables space.
“We will provide more information in the coming days and weeks,” Marshall said. “Right now all we are able to tell you is that we are working closely with Google in collaboration to bring the LG G Watch to market.”
He added: “You can expect it in quarter two of this year, so very, very quickly, and obviously that means more information will fall out and we will let you know as soon as that becomes available.
“Right now it is a clear statement of intent in terms of working with Google and we are exciting about the next step and what that brings for us. That’s as much as we can say today.”
