Samsung NX mini launched as slim interchangeable lens camera

The Samsung NX mini has been launched as an ultra-slim CSC camera with in-built Wi-Fi and a focus on selfies.

With a 20.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, the NX mini has a 3-inch 180-degree flipping touch LCD screen that Samsung claims will appeal to those who love taking photographs of themselves.

“The new Samsung NX mini is a stylish camera that’s perfect for anyone that follows the latest trends and who’s interest in fashion and design”, said Simon Stanford, VP of Samsung’s IT and Mobile Division. “With the selfie phenomenon still huge, we know that many of our customers want a camera that allows them to take amazing photos of them with their family and friends really easily, something the NX mini will enable them to do – and more.”

Samsung NX mini Features

The Samsung NX mini features a 1-inch type 20.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, which is the same kind found in the popular Nikon 1 series and fixed lens compacts like the Sony RX100 II.

Samsung claims the NX mini is the slimmest and lighest CSC in the world and as its just 22.5mm thick and weighs only 158g (body only), it may well be right.

Despite its dinky dimensions, the NX mini has a 3-inch LCD touchscreen that can rotate 180-degrees for selfies and the like. Aiding this “phenomenon” as Samsung calls it, the NX mini has a Wink shot feature that takes a shot when you wink at the camera, with a 2-second delay so you can ready your face.

It also has a 6fps Continuous Shot mode and a 1/1600 second shutter speed for capturing moving subjects.

The NX mini has an ISO range of 160 – 12800 and can record full 1920 x 1080p HD video at 30fps.

Samsung has equipped the NX mini with in-built NFC and Wi-Fi connectivity, letting you share photos and videos straight to your smartphone and tablet.

There are also three new NX mini lenses (NX-M) to mark the new CSC:

NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED lens – useful for capturing landscapes and self-portraits

NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS lens – micro-compact zoom lens

NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lens – capable of creating bokeh effects
