Samsung Galaxy Beam successor
Samsung is planning to launch a second Samsung Galaxy Beam device with improved specs, according to a recent leak emanating from China.
The original Samsung Galaxy Beam is an odd device, packing a surprisingly effective compact projector into a mediocre Android phone. It looks as if Samsung is going to continue that trend in the follow-up.
A second Samsung Galaxy Beam device has been entered into the certification process in China, with information leaking from the Tenaa certification group.
The Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 (or whatever it turns out to be called) will feature a 4.66-inch 800 x 480 display. That’s around half an inch bigger than the original, though it retains the same underwhelming resolution.
It seems as if the Galaxy Beam 2’s processor will be much improved over the 1GHz dual-core original, which was backed by just 768MB of RAM. These leaked specs reveal a quad-core 1.2GHz processor backed by 1GB of RAM.
You also get a microSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage.
On the software front, you may not get the very latest version of Android powering that novel projector. Rather, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean has been assigned that task.
At 11.6mm thick, the Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 might seem like a chunky customer, but it’s actually a millimetre thinner than the original. Samsung has also ditched the somewhat odd black-and-yellow colour scheme of the original for a more typical metal-effect plastic look.
This is almost as good as official confirmation, but the question remains as to whether the Samsung Galaxy Beam follow-up will be made available outside of China.
