EA has formally unveiled the FIFA 14 cover art, with Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale to grace the front of the box in the UK alongside Lionel Messi.

Having previously confirmed it had poached Messi from bitter series rival PES, to become the global face of FIFA 14, EA has today revealed that the UK iteration of the eagerly awaited football sim will see last year’s Premier League Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Gareth Bale share the cover with the Barcelona star.

"The players on the front cover since I was a kid have obviously been legends of the game," Bale said speaking on his new FIFA 14 cover star status. "It's a great honour for me and I'm very proud of it.”

As well as appearing on the cover, Bale will feature within the game with added realism, having been recorded by 58 Vicon motion capture cameras before being digitally remastered with precision accuracy. As well as recording the Welshman while he performed series of passing, dribbling and shooting drills, the bank of precise, motion mapping cameras have also captured his trademark dipping free kicks and resulting celebrations.

Set to adorn the UK cover of FIFA 14, Bale will join the likes of Juventus’ Arturo Vidal and Man United’s Mexican striker Javier Hernandez as a regional cover star of the leading football title.

With a FIFA 14 release date set for September 27 in the UK, EA has confirmed that the game’s day one Xbox 360 and PS3 availability will be followed later in the year with launches for the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 consoles.
