LG Electronics is aiming to sell a total 10 million units of the LG G4, due for release later this year.
According to the Korea Times, an LG official speaking at MWC in Barcelona last week reckoned the upcoming flagship would trump last year’s smartphone effort.
“LG Electronics aims to achieve the 10 million sales target of the G4 smartphone, which will be unveiled next month,” the unnamed insider explained.
“Specifications of the G4 and changes we’ve made had been briefed to top outlet channels and European carriers during the Mobile World Congress fair. Initial response was good enough.”
The LG G3 sold somewhere between 6 and 7 million units, and was well received almost across the board critically.
LG reckons the G4 should one-up its predecessor though, and wants to bring the hurt against top tier rivals like Xiaomi and Samsung.
“LG knows this year will be very crucial whether to maintain a stable lead as the world’s third-biggest smartphone producer in annual sales by widening gaps with our Chinese rivals, such as Xiaomi. LG will actively respond,” said the official.

The article also reports the source as having dismissed concerns over the Snapdragon 810 chip, despite Samsung dropping the chipset for its own in the new Galaxy S6.
“We have no problems to source application processor chips provided by Qualcomm as the latter addressed some not big technical issues.”
The LG G4 is expected to launch next month, although there’s no word on an exact release date just yet.
