Specs for the first Samsung Galaxy S6 spin-off have leaked as details for the rugged Galaxy S6 Active pop up online.
Despite the Galaxy S6 and innovative Galaxy S6 Edge having only entered the realms of reality last week, the ever-churning rumour mill is already spewing out details on what’s next.
According to SamMobile’s tipsters, what’s next is the Galaxy S6 Active, a rugged, waterproof sibling to the Korean manufacturer’s latest flagship phone.
Unlike many spin-off handsets, it doesn’t appear that the Active will skimp on specs when compared with its predecessor.
The leaks have suggested the S6 Active will boast the same 5.1-inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD display and 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor as its predecessor.
Where the phone will differ, however, is in it build and battery life.
Tipped to feature an 8.8mm thick form, the S6 Active’s ruggedized, water resistant design will reportedly add a full 2mm on top of the S6’s existing 6.8mm slim body.
Part of the reason for this weight gain is the addition of a larger battery. Where the S6 hosts a relatively compact 2550mAh power supply, the Active will reportedly jump to a 3500mAh offering.

At present there is currently no word on when the Galaxy S6 Active will be introduced to market, although it has been suggested the device will be exclusive to American network AT&T at first.
With the S6 having ditched the waterproof capabilities of the S5, it makes sense that the Active would be the franchise’s first spin-off offering.
Further flagship Samsung additions we’ve seen in previous years include the camera-focussed ‘Zoom’ line and the sub-sized ‘Mini’ range.
