A case? A speaker? It's both

The Peri Duo Case is that rare beast – a mobile phone case that does something different. It packs speakers, so you won't need a separate Bluetooth sound chucker to share your Lionel Ritchie playlist with the world.

Despite the sound playing skills, it's not too chunky, so should still fit easily in your pocket. There's no word on how powerful the speakers are, but it boasts an integrated hi-def DAC (digital-to-analogue converter) and fully programmable single-chip DSP. You can tweak the equalisation to get the best sound.

It also packs a 2,500mAh battery, which is more than enough to fully charge an iPhone 5S, or an iPhone 6. But not an iPhone 6 Plus, which has a mighty 2,915mAh battery.

The company is taking requests for models for Android devices, and – if it gets enough support – may launch an Android version too.

The case connects to your phone over Bluetooth, so it doesn't have to be in the case to play your tunes. That means you can play tracks on it from an Android or Windows Phone device, too. You can also stream music to dozens of Duo cases without the need for a local Wi-Fi network, thanks to its multi-cast functionality.

It comes in black/silver, red/black and white/gold, and, if successful, should start shipping in April.

You can see a demo of the old version at the bottom of this page. A demo with the latest prototype should hit the Indiegogo page soon.
