Sony has announced that there has already been 20 million minutes or over 330,000 hours of gameplay streamed using the PS4 Share button.
It seems one of the new features of the PS4 DualShock 4 controller, the Share button, has proved exceedingly popular with early PS4 gamers.
With over 330,000 hours clocked by nearly 800,000 gameplay broadcasts across the world. Over 7.1 million gamers have tuned in to watch the streams via Twitch and Ustream as well.
“As you may have seen, last week we announced that PS4 has sold over 2 million units around the world since its launch late last month. Of course it’s great to see such healthy numbers, but even more heartening is seeing just how enthusiastic the response has been to one of the new systems banner features: the Share button”, states the PlayStation blog.
The PS4 gameplay clips haven’t been snippets of action either, with Ustream suggesting each broadcast is an average 31 minutes.
“PlayStation 4 is specifically designed so people can share their gaming experiences and interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations”, said Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President.
“We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years.”
Sony’s data also suggests that the PS4 Share Menu has already been accessed over 10.9 million times since launch and 10 per cent of all Twitch content comes now originates from a PS4.
The rather impressive figure come despite Twitch’s decision to pull all streams from PS4 augmented reality game, The Playroom due to violations of its terms of service.
Twitch wished to highlight that all of its content should be gaming-related and the service was not to be used in any other way.
