Digital Xbox One games have received an unwanted price hike, with Microsoft confirming a number of next-gen titles are now £5 more expensive.
Affecting digital download editions of Xbox One exclusive titles, Microsoft has revealed that following a brief introductory period, a number of games will now set wannabe owners back a full £50, £5 more than at launch.
Although Microsoft has failed to give any precise reasoning for the price increases, the company has suggested that future deals could see digital Xbox One games fluctuate in price, both up and down.
“Pricing for select digital content in some markets has changed since launch," a Microsoft spokesperson told gaming outlet CVG.
They added: "Digital content pricing is subject to change and we may occasionally offer various deals or promotions. Ultimately pricing and promotions will vary by region."
The digital Xbox One games to have been handed a £5 price hike are the console exclusive Ryse, Forze Motorsport 5 and Dead Rising 3. All three games were available for £45 at the console’s launch last month but will now set wannabe owners back £50 apiece.
Strangely, the other Xbox One exclusive, Zoo Tycoon has received no price increase but cost the more expensive £50 from launch.
Despite the Xbox One game price rise, third party developed titles are still cheaper on Microsoft’s next-gen console than on the rival PS4.
While Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts costs £55 as a digital download on both consoles, the £60 FIFA 14 fee on PS4 is £5 more than on the Xbox One.
