Aldi Medion Lifetab E7316
The £80 Aldi Medion Lifetab tablet has completely sold out, having gone on sale over the weekend at the supermarket chain.
Aldi launched the Medion Lifetab E7316 for £79.99 over the weekend, much to the delight of bargain hunters who queued up in the cold to get their gloved hands on the 7-inch Android tablet.
It was part of an Aldi “Specialbuy” promotion and as such was available “only until stocks last”, which suggests the Medion Lifetab stock won’t be refilled. An Aldi spokesman said the tablet is now completely sold out across all stores.
The Aldi Medion Lifetab is the latest in a string of low cost Android tablets to appear on the market in recent months.
The Tesco Hudl, another 7-inch Android offering, costs £119, but budget conscious shoppers could also opt for the Argos MyTablet for £99.99.
These 7-inch Android tablets face competition from high-end alternatives like the Google Nexus 7 2 and iPad mini 2 with Retina display.
Of course, people opting for the entry-level models will be a very different customer to those in the market for an Apple or Google slate.
“The biggest selling point here is definitely the price,” said Francisco Jeronimo, Mobile Devices Research Direction at IDC. “Tablets are becoming very popular. The larger screen size gives entertainment on the move to users, which is becoming very popular among commuters and children.”
“However, most parents don’t want to spend £300 - £500 on a device that will mainly be used to play games, to watch movies and a few other educational applications.”
The Aldi Medion Lifetab E7316 has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card.
It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 2-megapixel rear camera.
